Characteristic route to the discovery of the traditional life of our place. Through the daily activities of the locals as well as the mythological places of Crete such as the cave of Zeus!
Our first stop is the verdant one and one of the most representative villages of Crete, Potamies. We will be guided to a traditional farm where we will see the milking of animals and local activities such as goat milking. There we will taste traditional products such as fresh cheese, olive oil & rakomelo!
Next stop is the Aposelemis dam, the largest water supply project in Crete. The village of Sfendili is submerged in the waters of the dam with its impressive old houses fading on the surface of the water. Also a natural wetland with a variety of birds.
We continue uphill on dirt roads to the gorge of Empassa. Impressive mountains and wildlife in addition with unique views. Opportunity to collect some local herbs.
After that, we’ll make a stop at the longest windmill line in Crete, located at the entrance of Lasithi Plateau. Here, we’ll have a panoramic photo opportunity and learn about the history of windmills in Crete!
We proceed to the Lassithi Plateau, where the cave of the god Zeus is located. Whether you choose to visit it or simply relax with a walk or enjoy a coffee in one of the local cafeterias offering a panoramic view of the plateau.
As we journey toward a delicious meal, we traverse the enchanting Lasithi Plateau and its gardens. All in all our route offers a glimpse into the vibrant local activities and everyday life. Providing a charming experience for all.
Time for delicious authentic food baked in the wood oven! Perfectly accompanied with local wines in one of the best traditional taverns.
After the local feast, we stroll through the alleys of the picturesque village of Krasi. Its square, dominated by fountains and imposing centuries-old plane trees, is where we find the oldest one in Crete, standing tall at over 2000 years old!
Our journey culminates with a spectacular panoramic view stretching from Sissi to Analipsi. Don’t miss the opportunity to capture stunning photos that encapsulate the scenic beauty of this unforgettable experience.
