Follow the myths of Zeus to Mount Psiloritis and enjoy a hands-on cooking class in a traditional mountain retreat, surrounded by Cretan nature and culture.
Uncover the mythical soul of Crete on this unforgettable journey to Mount Psiloritis, the legendary birthplace of Zeus and a UNESCO Global Geopark. This full-day experience combines rich mythology, stunning mountain landscapes, and authentic Cretan gastronomy.
Your adventure begins in Heraklion, where you’ll meet your local guide and get an introduction to the day ahead. As we ascend the eastern slopes of Psiloritis, the scenic drive offers breathtaking views of Heraklion city and the Cretan Sea.
Our first stop is the Livadi Plateau, a hidden gem adorned with blossoming pear and apple trees in spring. We follow a rugged path that runs alongside the dramatic Krousonas Gorge, making our way to the Nida Plateau—home of the mythical Idaion Andron, the cave where Zeus was raised by the nymph Amalthea and protected by the warrior Kourites.
After connecting with Crete’s mythological roots, we pause at a traditional kafenion in Anogia, one of the island’s most characterful mountain villages.
But the highlight of the day awaits at Psiloritis Chalet Retreat in Livadia, perched at 1,200 meters. Here, you’ll roll up your sleeves for a hands-on cooking lesson, learning to craft traditional Cretan cheese and local specialties using fresh ingredients from the surrounding mountains.
The day ends with a peaceful return to Heraklion via the Anogia provincial road—your heart full, your senses delighted, and your connection to Crete forever deepened.
