Hike an ancient coastal trail from Agios Ioannis to Koudoumas Monastery, passing turquoise beaches, hidden caves, pine forests, and a shipwreck—accompanied by sheep and soaring vultures—before enjoying a panoramic village view on the way back.
Step into another world with the Trekking Moni Koudouma adventure, a breathtaking hike along Crete’s wild southern coast. Starting in the charming fishing village of Agios Ioannis, you’ll follow an ancient trail once used by locals for centuries. The path winds through an ever-changing landscape—remote beaches with shimmering turquoise waters, mysterious sea caves, saltpans carved by time, fragrant pine forests, and even the haunting sight of a forgotten shipwreck.
Along the way, you’ll share the trail with curious sheep and watch vultures circle high above, adding to the trail’s untamed beauty. Your journey culminates at the secluded Koudoumas Monastery, where you can relax on the quiet beach, sip traditional Greek coffee, and explore the monastery’s serene interior.
On the return trip, the adventure isn’t over. Time permitting, we’ll visit the mountain village of Kapetaniana to take in one of Crete’s most spectacular panoramic views—a final gift from this unforgettable journey.
This hike is more than a walk; it’s a deep connection to the soul of Crete, where every step carries the island’s ancient rhythm and coastal magic.
