Tips for Families

  • A gentle, outdoor experience that works for all ages. Children can pick vegetables, touch herbs, and watch bread being made in a wood oven.

Your adventure awaits

Visit a family-run organic farm on the Lasithi Plateau and spend a few hours living the way locals have lived here for generations. This farm experience takes you into the fields, the kitchen, and the wood oven, with no glass walls between you and the work. T he plateau sits at 850 meters above sea level, surrounded by a ring of mountains in East Crete. The soil is rich, the air is clean, and the families who farm here still grow what they eat. You arrive at the farm and walk through the organic garden, picking vegetables and gathering wild herbs with the family. You learn what grows here and why, and how the Cretan diet is shaped by what the land provides season to season. Then you step into the kitchen. The family shows you how to knead and bake traditional Cretan bread in a wood-fired oven. You eat it warm, with olive oil from the farm. If the season is right, you may also take part in other agricultural tasks, from olive picking to harvesting, depending on what the land asks for at that time of year. What makes this farm experience in Crete different is the setting. The Lasithi Plateau has its own rhythm, slower and quieter than the coast. The plateau's name goes back centuries, and the families farming here carry traditions that are just as old. You're not visiting a showroom. You're stepping into someone's daily life, getting your hands in the soil, and eating what comes out of it.
