FairTips for Families
- The live cooking over fire is genuinely engaging for children, not just for adults. There is plenty to watch, smell, and ask about
- The educational content covers Minoan history in a way that holds younger guests' attention without losing the adults
Your adventure awaits
This wine tasting and cooking experience at PoTolo is built around one idea: the Minoan table. Not a re-enactment, not a theme dinner, but a serious look at how the oldest food culture in Europe understood ingredients, fire, and cooking techiques, and what that means for the way we eat today.
The session opens with live cooking over an open fire. Clay vessels go directly onto the flame, the way Minoans cooked for centuries, and a 3-course meal takes shape in front of you. While the food cooks, you move through a guided tasting of four premium low-intervention wines made from indigenous Cretan grape varieties: varieties that have grown on this island long before the word "terroir" existed. The food and wine come together at the table, joined by a spread of locally sourced Cretan delicacies: three types of cheese, handmade Cretan pies, freshly baked sourdough, and olive oil from small ethical producers.
The group is kept small deliberately. The atmosphere is intimate, the setting unhurried, and the person guiding you through it knows the material from the inside. This is not a tasting menu with a slideshow. It's a shared meal with a point of view.
The experience works equally well for couples, families with curious kids, and small groups of friends. The educational angle is genuine without being heavy, and the food is substantial enough that this works as a main event for the evening rather than a warm-up.
