GoodTips for Families
- The minimum age of 18 and the physical demands of the full circuit make this unsuitable for younger guests
- Families looking for a Psiloritis experience together are better served by the three-peak traverse (minimum age 16) or the Ida summit day trip (minimum age 14)
- This is the right choice for adult children and parents who both have a genuine hiking background and want to take on something serious together
Your adventure awaits
Psiloritis has five peaks above 2,000 metres. This hiking day trip visits all of them. That is the entire premise, and it is enough of one. The five peaks circuit covers Stalistra (2,335 m), Ida (2,456 m), Agathias (2,424 m), Voulomenos (2,267 m), and Kousakas (2,211 m) in a single continuous day, starting and finishing at the Migeros Plateau. It is the most complete way to experience the Psiloritis UNESCO Geopark on foot, and it is not a route for everyone. Minimum age is 18, maximum is 60, and the fitness requirement is genuine.
The day builds from the first step. Stalistra arrives after three hours of climbing and marks the entry point to the high terrain. From there the route moves across the upper mountain, peak by peak, with the Ida summit at 2,456 metres as the centrepiece of the day. The small stone chapel at the top has stood here long enough to become part of the landscape itself. The 360-degree view from the Ida summit covers the full breadth of the island: both coastlines, every major mountain range, and the outline of Gavdos on the southern horizon. After thirty minutes here the route continues, and there are still two peaks left. Agathias, Voulomenos, and Kousakas follow in sequence before the long return to the plateau. By the time you arrive back at the car, you will have spent the better part of a day above 2,000 metres without coming down once.
Your guide manages the pace across all five peaks, leads the route in English, and carries a first aid kit for the full duration. Photos are taken throughout so the progression of the day across the ridge is captured from the first ascent to the last.
This is Crete at its most demanding and most rewarding: no coast, no crowds, no shortcuts. Just the mountain, from one end to the other.

Everything you need to know
Hotel picking up & dropp off
Experienced, English-speaking hiking guide for the full route
First aid kit throughout the hike
Photos from the trail covering all five peaks
Avoid this experience if you have any heart, knee, or joint conditions: the sustained elevation, technical descents, and overall duration leave no margin for pre-existing physical limitations
Backpack with at least 3 litres of water
Enough snacks for a full day on the mountain, including a proper stop at the Ida summit
Windproof jacket (the route stays fully exposed at altitude all day and conditions can shift without warning)
Hat and suncare
Hiking boots with solid ankle support (this is non-negotiable for a route of this length and terrain)
Important Notes
- •Minimum age: 18 years old
- •Maximum age: 60 years old
- •Not suitable for guests with heart, knee, joint, or other significant medical conditions
- •This is the most demanding hiking experience in the Psiloritis range: a full day above 2,000 metres with approximately 10 hours of total activity from pick-up to return
- •The experience runs weather permitting: high-altitude conditions on Psiloritis can change quickly and the guide will communicate any adjustments in advance
