Your adventure awaits
This cooking activity in Chania takes you back to the basics of Cretan food culture, starting not at the stove but at the flour mill. Before any dough is touched, you step into a working stone mill in Voukolies Village where grain is ground using traditional methods that have changed very little over centuries. It is a grounding moment, and it sets the tone for everything that follows.
From there, the workshop moves to the kitchen. With aprons on and a chef guiding you through every step, you learn to make real Cretan recipes by hand. The options vary: you can choose to bake a wood-fired loaf, fold sfakiani pie, shape kalitsounia, or explore a broader selection of traditional Cretan recipes depending on the session. You work with simple ingredients, and the pace is unhurried. There is no performance here, just hands in flour and stories shared around the table.
The experience is rooted in a setting with genuine history. The venue is a restored Venetian mill set among olive groves near Chania, and the team brings that context to life throughout the session, connecting each recipe to the landscape and traditions it comes from.
The final 1.5 hours are spent at the tasting table, set outside in the olive grove. Everything you prepared comes straight from the wood-fired oven and is served alongside a spread of local Cretan products: olive oil, honey, aged cheeses, rusks, and a small glass of tsikoudia. The four hours pass in a way that feels more like a visit to a local family than a cooking activtiy.
