Your adventure awaits
This semi-private sailing trip takes you from Heraklion out to Dia Island, an uninhabited nature reserve just off the north coast of Crete, timed so the return journey lines up with the sunset. It's a full afternoon and evening at sea, with hotel transfers, a meal on board, and drinks included from start to finish. No separate bookings, no extra costs once you're on the boat.
The trip begins at your hotel, where a private van picks you up and brings you to the port. On board, you're welcomed with a drink before the captain covers the safety basics and the boat sets off. The sail to Dia Island takes around an hour, ending with the boat anchored in Saint George Bay, a sheltered spot with clear, calm water and a rugged shoreline far quieter than the beaches around Heraklion. Free time here is yours to use however you like: swimming, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, or just sitting on deck. All equipment is provided by the crew. The chef then serves a proper meal on board: seafood pasta or rice with seafood, fresh salad, and unlimited wine or soft drinks. On the return sail, as the light changes over the Cretan Sea, a glass of champagne is served on deck.
Dia Island is a protected nature reserve and a known habitat for Caretta caretta sea turtles. There's a good chance of spotting them in the water, particularly near the bay. The experienced crew, including your captain and an on-board chef, keeps the experience well-organised without making it feel rushed.
The trip suits a wide range of groups. Families can request a children's menu with advance notice, couples get a naturally atmospheric evening at sea, and groups of friends have enough variety on the water to keep everyone occupied. A vegan menu is also available if arranged a day ahead.
